RUDD FAILS TO ANSWER RANN
Today in Question Time the Prime Minister indicated that he has not replied to the letter from Premier Rann on the 6th of January pleading for a fair allocation of water for South Australia from the NSW floods.
The absence of an answer to this letter from Premier Rann is further proof that the Rudd Government wants nothing to do with fixing the issue of federal control of the Murray Darling Basin.
The recent floods in Northern NSW have proven that the so-called ‘historic’ agreement was a cop-out. Since that announcement in July 2008, Kevin Rudd has taken no more than a passing interest in the issues facing the Murray Darling Basin and in particular in the Lower Lakes.
While the communities around the Lower Lakes welcome any additional water, the measly size of the additional water allocated has left them disappointed and let down.
Last week the NSW Labor Premier couldn’t decide whether this water was a ‘loan’ or a ‘gift’ and today we find out that the Prime Minister can’t even reply to a letter pleading for a fair go from a Labor mate.
We need a federal take over to fix this system of bribes and backroom deals.
If Kevin Rudd can’t deliver this reform, Tony Abbott will.
